"I'M RICH BIATCH!" ~ george calrin

n he said Bitch, I have money.

Hey folks,
I'm currently on my 2nd Warmoth D5 neck and having the same issue.Anybody else experience the following:
I purchased my first D5 neck in 2001.After a few years of playing it,I decided to have a pro luthier/tech reshape the neck,as it was somewhat clubby. He used the specs from a Music Man 5'er. The reshape was awesome...but...my E string dissapeared. The other four strings were great:clear, even, punchy, the low E (and all notes played on it) sounded like a dead flat wound. No high end presence,no clarity, way less volume than the other 4 strings.
Fast forward to the present. I recently had a local, well respected luthier/tech,assemble a Warmoth G5 for me. Again,I had the neck reshaped, this time, slightly larger than an American Fender 5 profile...voila,same "dissapearing" E syndrome, with the remaining 4 strings sounding absolutley killer, even the B,the bain of the 34" scale 5'er sounds huge!.
Was it the reshapes that caused the anomoly in both basses? Well, I've played a number of MM 5's (same profile as neck #1),great E. I've played a number of Fender 5's ( which have a slimmer profile/less wood than neck #2),Americans,Mexicans,Squiers;both Deluxe, and Affinities...only one of the Americans had a similar, though no where near as drastic, weak E,then again, this fellows strings were way dead.
I know that some folks have sent their D5 equipped basses to Mike Dolan for a neck reshape...did you folks lose your E string response?
I tried the folks at Warmoth months ago, before I went ahead and purchased the 2nd neck. The sales manager was great, polite, attentive, but, baffled as to what the cause could be.
By the way,the 2nd neck went on a completely different bass with different components as well. I don't set my relief pin straight. I do find, however, that if I loosen the truss rod considerably, and relieve the neck more than is comfortable,(to me,or anyone else who's played it),it helps bring the E string back to life a little bit,but the anomoly is still quite noticeable, both sonically, and in the way the body vibrates(or doesn't actually) when that string is played
